Elderly Client Care

We believe that planning for the future is important and at Mackenzie & Dorman we are particularly interested in ensuring that our senior clients and their families receive the right advice in relation to the challenges which can face us all as we grow older.

We provide advice on the setting up of Enduring Powers of Attorney which enable you to choose a trusted individual or individuals to look after your affairs if you become incapable of doing so yourself. We also advise elder clients on how to plan for long term care including the best strategies for paying for care if required.

In circumstances where an Enduring Power of Attorney has not been made, it may be necessary to apply to the Court for the appointment of an approved person to look after the affairs of someone who has become mentally incapable. These are known as Controllership applications and we work closely with the Office of Care and Protection in the High Court in relation to such cases.

If you have a parent who needs nursing care, or where a parent or relative goes into nursing or long term care at short notice, we advise you to contact us for immediate advice. Decisions made at short notice and under emotional pressure can lead to expensive financial commitments that might otherwise be avoided.

Where it is appropriate our solicitors can also take on the role of Attorney or Controller and deal with the management of a client’s financial affairs.
